ABOUT
ABOUT
Michael Wu is a New York–based independent artist blending indie rock, dream pop, post-punk, and alt-folk. His music pairs melodic, guitar-driven hooks with shimmering, atmospheric textures — sincere, modern, and rooted in the lineage of R.E.M. and classic British guitar pop in the vein of Johnny Marr (The Smiths) and James Honeyman-Scott (The Pretenders), with modern influences like Beach Fossils and The War on Drugs.
Critics have taken notice of what sits beneath the surface. Lost In The Manor writes that his music is “careful and polished while retaining a raw sound that gives it character — once you start peeling back the layers, its lyrical and emotional complexity becomes apparent.” Savoy Truffle Tunes describes Wu as striking “the perfect balance between sharp social critiques and irresistibly catchy melodies.”
After years on bass with regional acts including Gunpoets and Front & Main, Wu stepped forward in 2025 with his debut single Time25, earning early praise from Obscure Sound and Pitch Perfect. Further singles followed with each drawing new critical attention and building toward his debut EP The Other Side, released March 27, 2026, alongside the title track single. Music for listeners who care about where songs come from and what they mean.

"'All Over' is careful and polished while retaining a raw sound that gives it character in an oversaturated landscape. Once you start peeling back the layers, its lyrical and emotional complexity becomes apparent."
— Lost In The Manor
"'All Over' examines American culture's selective outrage and constant churn of emotional energy. Through Marr-esque guitar textures and a shimmering indie-rock backbone, it strikes the perfect balance between sharp social critiques and irresistibly catchy melodies."
— Savory Truffle Tunes
“Sonically, 'Better Way' sits comfortably at the crossroads of alternative rock warmth and indie-pop sparkle. The guitars shimmer with a playful jangle, nodding subtly to classic influences while keeping a fresh, modern pulse. The rhythm section adds a gentle propulsion, giving the song an easy momentum that feels hopeful rather than urgent. Everything moves with a sense of balance: expressive but light on its feet, polished yet warmly human.”
— Rock Era Magazine
"Musically, Better Way leans into clean, jangly guitar lines that feel bright without being showy. The arrangement is tight and purposeful, built on structure rather than excess. Each element seems to know its role, reinforcing the song’s sense of clarity and direction. Wu’s vocals are understated but confident, carrying an emotional honesty that doesn’t need to announce itself loudly to be felt."

“Time25 is a very cool song that blends indie rock, folk, pop, and psychedelic influences with thoughtful lyrics. And it’s great to hear him finally step out as a vocalist, too.”
